Channel Duvets

We remove the down and place it in a cleaning machine, which uses ultraviolet light and gentle air to sterilize and deodorize the down and remove the broken fibres and dust. The empty casing is cleaned separately. Because a duvet will lose about 10% of its fill every five years, new down is added to bring the duvet back to its designed loft. The duvet is then reassembled by hand and returned to you. Adding Fill

Cleaning and labour prices do not include the cost of new down used to top up a channel duvet, since this amount varies with each duvet. When we access your duvet, we can estimate the type and number of ounces of new fill that we will need to add. We take into consideration your duvet's age, your comfort needs, the feel of the fill (is it heavy? does it loft well?) and any obvious wear to the outside of the duvet. Prices for new fill are: $1.00/ounce for 20/80, $1.50/ounce for 50/50, $4.00/ounce for silver goose down and $8.00/ounce for Hutterite white goose down. When adding new fill we will match the type of fill already in the duvet, or use a different blend to add warmth, loft or weight, according to your needs.

Cleaning and Refurbishing Box Duvets

Since the down in box duvets cannot be separated for individual ultraviolet cleaning, we use a special biodegradable soap to wash the duvet intact. In our specially designed machines, the duvet is then dried in warm air for five to eight hours. This is a time- and energy-consuming method, but is the only one that produces satisfactory results for the cleaning of a box duvet.

 Prices include special soap, spot cleaning, extra rinsing to ensure that no soap is left on the down, and air fluff drying.

Is your box duvet getting flat?

If you sleep under a box duvet, you may notice that the fill will tend to wander to the outside boxes, leaving the centre boxes rather flat. We can readjust the fill in box duvets and add extra fill, but it is a labour intensive process because of the internal structure of box duvets. We must manipulate the fill by hand through the small openings between the boxes, adding any extra fill as we go. Of course, time and use will tend to move the fill back to the outside boxes, so these measures are temporary. The labour cost to readjust a box duvet is between $30 and $50, depending on the amount of time we spend on the work.

Cleaning and Recasing Duvets

Over time, the casing on your duvet will become yellow and stained from perspiration, body oils and the wear and tear of living. When small holes appear on your casing (usually along the top/bottom edge), or you notice that there is some leakage of fill, it is time to recase. We open your old duvet, clean the fill with ultraviolet light and restuff the cleaned fill into a new white cotton channel casing. We then top up your recased duvet with new down or down and feather, as needed. The prices below do not include this additional fill, which varies with the age of your duvet and the comfort level you require.

Cleaning and Refurbishing Pillows

The cleaning process for pillows is the same as for channel duvets, but on a smaller scale. We remove and clean the fill, wash the casing, and put the pillow back together by hand, adding new fill as needed to top the pillow up to the consistency you want. We can also recase your pillow with a new white cotton ticking if the casing is very stained or if there is any leakage of fill.
